Dos and Don’ts of a Juice Fast
You might have decided that you want to cleanse and detox your body by doing a juice cleanse. You might also be hoping that a juice cleanse will help you with jump-starting your weight loss plan. Before you get started, there are some dos and don’ts that you need to know about so you’ll be fully prepared.
Do: Determine How Long it Will Be
You shouldn’t just start a juice cleanse without having a schedule in mind. If it’s your first juice cleanse, then you may want to simply do your cleanse for just one day. Typically, you’ll want to keep it to three days or less, at least when you are first starting out.
Do: Get a Friend Involved
Many people do juice cleanses on their own, and there is nothing wrong with this if it’s your only option. If you have a friend or family member who is interested in doing a juice cleanse, however, you may find that it will benefit you both if you do it together. Then, you’ll be able to support and encourage one another.
Do: Add a Nutrient Powder to Your Juice
Even though many juices are packed with vitamins and minerals, you might be worried that you won’t be getting all of the protein and other nutrients that you need while you’re on your juice cleanse. If this is something you’re worried about, then you should think about purchasing a superfood powder that you can mix in with your juice. These powders are packed with nutrients and often taste good, too, so they’re great for taking your juice cleanse to the next level.
Do: Keep a Journal
When you’re doing a juice cleanse, it’s typically a good time to focus on proper self-care. This is also a good time to keep a journal. You can write about how you’re feeling during your juice cleanse, what your goals are during and after your juice cleanse, and more.
Don’t: Buy the Wrong Juices
There are a lot of delicious juices out there, and you might have a few favorites that you’re thinking about consuming when you’re on your juice cleanse. It’s important to choose the right juices, however. For one thing, you’ll need to be sure that the juice doesn’t have too much sugar. You’ll also need to be sure that it has ample nutrients. You can purchase special juices that are designed for juice cleanses, which might be what you will want to do. Then, you’ll know you are drinking the right juice for your cleanse.
Don’t: Work Out Too Hard
Since you might be partly doing a juice cleanse because you’re interested in losing weight, you might think that now is a good time for you to start doing cardio. Even though doing cardio is normally a good thing for good health and weight loss, it’s not something you should do much of when you’re in the middle of a juice cleanse. After all, you might not have a lot of energy. Once your juice cleanse is over and you have resumed eating a bit more normally, however, you might find that you will have tons of energy from your juice fast, and you might be ready to start working out on a regular basis.
Don’t: Ignore Your Body’s Signals
Going through a juice cleanse is actually an excellent way to really get in tune with your body, but you have to be sure that you don’t ignore your body’s signals. If you start suffering from hunger pangs or lightheadedness, you shouldn’t ignore what your body is telling you. Instead, munch on baby carrots, celery, or some other type of healthy, fresh vegetable. If you start feeling ill or weak in any way, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention.
Don’t: Immediately Go Back to Your Old Eating Habits
If you want to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle, then you might want to make changes to your diet after your juice cleanse. Also, be aware that immediately going back to your old diet can be hard on your system after a juice cleanse. Instead, you may want to focus on soups, salads, and other lighter foods for the first few days after your cleanse.
If you remember these dos and don’ts before, during, and after your juice cleanse, then you should be successful. Plus, during your first fast, you should learn a lot. Then, you’ll know even more about what to do during your next cleanse.
